It started with a Misfits t-shirt in the men’s toilet. Don’t get any ideas. It was just the start of a conversation that led to a band being formed. The persons in question, Vivek and me, Vimal.
I had just parted ways with my previous band, which had broken up and was on the lookout for people I could jam with. It was not some kind of hunt I was on, but I was keeping my eyes open. And where better to find people than at your workplace. That’s how Vivek and me got talking in the men’s toilet one day, when I asked him if he listened to Misfits. He was wearing a t-short with the skull logo of Misfits on it. We got talking and found that we were both interested in punk and thought we should try and form a band. We decided that even if we don’t find any body else to play with, we’ll try and work something out. We weren’t looking too far ahead of course.
We had a few jams at Vivek’s place and even booked a jam room to see if either of us could play the drums. It was weird. We had strangers interrupting and asking if we needed someone to play the drums. I regretfully agreed once and found out the hard way how even a beginner can sound like a death metal drummer if he persistently tries to break the drums. Joke.
Lesson learnt, I decided to look further among the hundreds (exaggeration) of people at my workplace for a drummer or a bassy or both. I asked around and some people I already knew suggested a few guys. I think there were a few more guitarists who were available, but both Vivek and me play guitars already.
That’s how I stumbled on the boy wonder, Samuel. More of a guitarist, than a bassy, but with more experience on the bass. Informed him about our situation and he agreed to jam with us and see what happens.
We still needed a drummer. I didn’t have much luck in that department. But Samuel suggested this guy he knew who was currently band-less and worked in our office. I had seen Jonni around before, but never took him to be a drummer. Drum sticks are quite big, you know. Ha! Anyways, I wrote him an e-mail. Talk about cheesiness, but I didn’t know the guy then. I wrote that we needed a drummer and we weren’t particular about style or genre. He replied saying that he was willing to play for us and see how things go.
That was June 2009.
And now, we’re here.
